SELf Defence

At Axis Yokohama, we place great importance on practicing the art of self-defense, which is a fundamental aspect of jiu-jitsu.
 
In order to learn how to remain calm and react to difficult situations and learn techniques to defend oneself, students practice mainly during basic classes and open mat time.
 

Basic Class

Regular Class

Image
The theme will be weekly techniques, with drills, situation sparring and sparring based on the concept of various applied technique variations, advanced techniques, and competition tactics.

All levels of participants, from beginners to advanced, are welcome to attend.

Grappling

Image
In grappling classes, students do not wear street clothes, which helps develop a sense of balance, control, and grip strength.
 
Under the guidance of the instructor, Axis Yokohama's original rules are used for intermediate to advanced students to prevent injuries, and leg joints (knee cross, toe hold, calf lock, heel hold, etc.) are also used in sparring sessions to prevent injuries during daily practice.
 
For first-time participants, we explain the rules and take measures to prevent injuries.
 
Please wear a rash guard and shorts for grappling.

Open Mat

In the open mats, members are free to review techniques they have learned, study new techniques they are interested in, and spar with other members.

You can practice freely.
 
After practice, you can communicate with each other about other things besides jiu-jitsu.

Kids (5-7 years)

You will learn Jiu-Jitsu moves naturally while having fun. 

Jiu-Jitsu basically does not use striking (punching and kicking), and by learning techniques and self-defense that allow them to subdue their opponents without hurting them, they will gain confidence and at the same time learn to respect their opponents, which will lead to measures to prevent physical bullying.
 
This program is designed to improve the children's courtesy, concentration, and physical fitness.

Kids (8-12 Years)

This class will start with a warm-up using Jiu-Jitsu movements, then move on to basic Jiu-Jitsu techniques and the latest techniques used in competitions.

This program is designed to help you improve your skills by concentrating on standing techniques, Newaza, drills, and more.

Private Lessons

Image
Lessons can be 30 minutes or one hour in length.
 
You can learn at your own pace, using the techniques you request or a menu created by the instructor.
